ESTABLISHMENT OF THE COLLEGE

Cooperative College was established in 1976 and was officially opened on 23 October 1979 by the first President of the Republic of Zambia Dr. K. D. Kaunda as an in-service centre providing short-term demand driven training in cooperative and agribusiness management targeted at small-scale farmers, cooperative members and agribusiness operators in addition to the provision of extension training countrywide.

MANDATE OF THE COLLEGE CHANGED

In the year 2002, following the liberalization of the national economy in 1991, the mandate of the College was broadened and included the provision of long term-training to both school and non-school leavers in cooperative development and agribusiness studies. Today, the College offers 3-year Diploma in Agribusiness Management and a 2-year certificate in Cooperative Development and Agribusiness Management.

ACTIVITIES OF THE COLLEGE

The College is headed by the Principal-Dr.Mweemba Mwiinga(Msc Agronomy,Masters in Public Administration,PhD) and all the activities of the College are under her supervision.

ACCREDITATION

The College’s long term training programmes are accredited to the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA), in accordance with the TEVET Act No. 13 of 1998, and Mulungushi University.

The two (02) long-term training programmes currently offered by the College are:

  • Two-year Certificate in Cooperative Development & Agribusiness Management (CDAM), under TEVETA
  • Three-year Diploma in Agribusiness Management (DAM), under Mulungushi University

The training programme are implemented as per academic calendar.

MOVEMENT TO MINISTRY OF COMMERCE,TRADE AND INDUSTRY

The College was  under the Ministry of Agriculture. It was moved from the Department of Human Resources and Administration in the Ministry of Agriculture to the Department of Cooperatives in the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry.
